I had no idea this show was happening until I was channel surfing last night and decided, against my better judgment (Rosemary's Baby anyone?) to give it a watch. Im not sure where I stand yet, but these are my observations.
There were some things I liked. The score was great, I was rattling windows. Barbara Hershey is a big plus for me, she is great in everything she's in. I also liked seeing cuts from the original movie, but after I lost count how many there were, it started to feel like filler. With all of the shots from the original it makes me wonder how much of the budget went toward paying for them. The location shots made it visually appealing as well.
Now we're on to what I didn't like. I find it funny that A&E's tagline is Be Original. I don't find this to be original material. I feel with Damien's amnesia about his childhood in the show, I am supposed to forget that The Final Conflict ever happened.
My thoughts all wrapped up are this: I get tying the old and new together. I would have preferred a new take on the Antichrist and not something connected with one of the best horror films ever made. I think I'll be willing to give the series at least a three episode run before I draw anymore conclusions. I don't think it's bad, I'm just on the fence after the first episode. It was too much of a mixed bag.
