Along with Sleepaway Camp (review to come), producer Charles Band's Tourist Trap is one of those classic horror movies that should be on any self respecting horror fans' must-see list. The question is, once you've finally seen it, is it worth the wait? Stick with me!
A group of young friends stranded at a roadside museum are stalked by the owner of the place, who has the power to control his collection of mannequins.
Tourist Trap owes more than a little to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the original House of Wax, but modern horror flicks -- particularly House of 1000 Corpses -- owe a lot to this creepy, lost gem.
For one, this a nightmarish feature, one that gets more and more fucked up as it goes along. The movie descends into the illogical at times, but I found myself OK with that, as the emphasis was on frights and weird-ass set pieces, over logic. This is a horror movie -- fuck logic!
For one, Chuck Connors is creepy. I was first introduced to the veteran genre actor on the TV show Matt Houston, where he played a disturbing bad guy. Here he plays a villain who is off the chain, and he owns this flick. Big time!
Secondly, Tanya Roberts. My god, is this chick hot. And she plays a great damsel in distress here. She's not the final girl -- that honour goes to Jocelyn Jones -- but she carries a lot of the movie, and looks great doing it.
Thirdly, this is just a disturbing, weird movie. Last word. Like I said, it doesn't make a lot of sense in the end, and kind of loses its shit during the final 15 minutes, but it's still a fun, fucked up ride that offers more than a few scares.
If you are a horror fan, Tourist Trap is a must watch, and a Good one at that. Check it out!
