Sometimes all you wanna watch on a Friday night is a good, old-fashioned shoot 'em up. You know, guns, some shit blows up, and there's a hot chick or two. Fortunately, Kevin Costner and Amber Heard's 3 Days to Kill showed up on my VOD queue and satisfied that need. But is it good?
A dying CIA agent trying to connect with his estranged daughter is offered an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment.
Yeah, this is a really good old-fashioned shoot 'em up. The scale is kept pretty lean, there's guns, guns, guns, and some shit blows up. And we've got Amber Heard to satisfy the hotness quotient. No complaints.
Well, OK. 3 Days to Kill is a little long, and the final shootout is a bit of a letdown given all the cool stuff that happens prior -- the opening sequence is awesome, as is a carjacking -- but whatever. I don't let misgivings like that ruin the overall experience.
Costner is in full badass form here, and delivers some awesome dad moments that should put a smile on any parent's face, whether you are parent to a daughter or not. And those who have a little girl will appreciate a scene in a rave washroom.
A more conventional critic would complain that Heard is too pretty to play a CIA operative and is in the flick strictly as eye candy. They are missing the point entirely and, if I have to explain why, so are you.
3 Days to Kill is near perfect Friday night viewing. It's a guy's movie, and entertains accordingly. A Good.
