That's right, the fifth film in The Terminator franchise is boldly going where no robot has gone before in an attempt to be a sequel, prequel and reboot all at once. Sounds kind of like what J.J. Abrams did with Star Trek.
How do we know this? The folks over at Moviehole claim to have talked with a reputable source on the project, who spilled the plot beans in a very spoilery fashion, if spoilery is even a word.
Yeah, yours truly has read the piece. If the details are indeed true, I've got a pretty good idea what Arnold Schwarzenegger and company are up to come July 1, 2015.
I won't go into the gory details, but suffice to say this is a new Terminator that touches on various moments from the previous movies, including the Terminator arriving in 1984 Los Angeles and encountering Bill Paxton and his gang of punks. There's also Sarah Connor's roommate, the T-1000 etcetera. Arnold's character is the connecting thread in much the way Leonard Nimoy was in Abram's Trek.
If done right, this could work. This is nice way of acknowledging the original films, sweeping Terminator: Salvation under the carpet, and bringing back the star that started it all in a movie aimed at new and old fans.
It could also suck balls, but I choose to be optimistic.
Head on over to Moviehole to read all about it, if you dare. Terminator: Genesis is directed by Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor and stars Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney.
