Long before The Basement existed, I ended my work week with a movie double bill over a six pack or two. One flick was chosen from the mainstream, the other from obscurity. On one such Friday night I selected Mike Mendez's The Gravedancers as my obscure title, and there was much rejoicing. Does the flick hold up today? Stick with me!
After a night of drunken exploits, Allison, Harris, and Kira are chased and terrorized by the ghosts of a child pyromaniac, an ax murderer, and a rapist.
In short, yes it does. The Gravedancers is a fun and freaky flick with an over-the-top ending and more than a few chills along the road there. THIS movie is why The Basement exists. It's one of those diamonds in the rough Shawn and I sought out before we even knew this was our calling in life.
We recently reviewed Big Ass Spider. What's awesome is how different the two flicks are given they're directed by the same hombre. Big Ass Spider is a balls out horror/comedy. The Gravedancers is almost jet-black serious. Almost. But, seeing them back to back, they are cut from the same cloth.
Dominic Purcell actually acts in this, Josie Maran is dead sexy, Clare Kramer (who is also in Big Ass Spider) is a most excellent wife, and Megahn Perry has a total Thelma from Scooby Doo thing going on. So yeah, the cast is good.
Actually, this whole movie is a Good. If you haven't caught The Gravedancers yet, and consider yourselves horror fans, get on it. You won't regret it.
