A state of The Basement redress

A couple of days ago Shawn and I provided an update on our plans for this site and our show. As you can tell from an earlier post tonight , we already proved ourselves liars. Truth is, aside from saying we're in this for the love of the show, we're backtracking on what we said in that post. Truth is, a few turn of events during the last 24 hours got Shawn and I think deeper about what we do. We're still all about the radio show/podcast, but we feel we have something pretty special going on with this site and how we do the shit we do. Yes, we're focusing on quality over quantity, so posts won't be coming at you in crazy numbers. But we will post as often as we can without driving ourselves batshit crazy. And we're not doing this because we want to become rich. We're doing it because we believe in what we do, and so do a core group of fans. Also, we're not done with the mini-film fest either. All I can say to that is stick with us! So brace

Citadel and The Awakening

Comin' at yah from across the pond -- a little corner of the globe where people know a thing or two about scary stories -- come two tales guaranteed to put the FEAR into you. First up is Ciaran Foy's movie about an agoraphobic father who teams up with a renegade priest to save his daughter from the clutches of a gang of twisted feral children who committed an act of violence against his family years earlier. Scared yet? You should be. Then The Basement Dwellers travel back in time to 1921 England as hoax exposer Florence Cathcart visits a boarding school to explain sightings of a child ghost. OK. Now you're scared, right? Right!?!? Plus, Jason and Shawn take a few moments of their not-so-precious time to talk about movies that should be remade. That's right, there are a few flicks out there that could stand to be retooled a little bit, and the Basementites are going to tell you what they are. So tune in at 10 p.m. PST at 92.5FM CFBX Kamloops and on

Bruce Campbell tweets Evil Dead remake's early release

I'm not going to pretend that I understand how all this social media stuff works, but Jebus bless it for giving us all kinds of cool shit to write about. First we got all the sexy pics of hot actresses from Machete Kills strutting their stuff online. Now we've got the crew of the Evil Dead remake tweeting about the film's rating etc. As Ash would say, groovy! Speaking of groovy, Ash himself -- Bruce Fucking Campbell -- tweeted today that the Evil Dead remake will hit a week early. That's April 5 to be exact. Apparently we demanded it. Not sure who "we" are. But there you go. Don't believe me? Check out this screen capture, bitches! There. Who's laughing now!?!? Mia, a young woman struggling with sobriety, heads to a remote cabin with her brother and three friends, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods.  We await with bated breath. Really, we do. Source: T

Proto-RoboCop?

Hey, folks.  Mike S popping in once again to bring you some more movie related news.  While cruising around "Arrow in the Head", I came across their little article about the " RoboCop " remake. It seems that the official look of the new RoboCop is still being kept classified as " Top Secret ", but pictures of a early RoboCop prototype (ED-208 Humanoid Drone) have been released.  Just look at the picture above, and you've got it.  ED-208, eh?  Looks a lot like the Iron Man armour to me.  This makes me wonder if the beloved ED-209 will make an actual appearance... and if so, how radically different will they make it? Judging from the MGM and Sony released synopsis, I get the feeling this movie isn't going to stray too far from the original release: In ROBOCOP, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to br

Tonight . . . on What Movie Wednesday

It's What Movie Wednesday time again. And that can only mean one thing, that Mike S over at The Corner of Terror is ready to subject himself to one of the potentially shitty movies on the list below. Actually, we're pretty sure they're all shitty in their own way. Just between you, me and the fence post. But don't tell Mike that, or he might stop doing this. 1. Blood Tide (1982) pictured 2. Point of Terror (1971) 3. Frankenstein 80 (1972) Now get on over to The Corner of Terror group page or fan page on Facebook and vote. Voting closes at 6:30 p.m. PST and the tweet along at @TerrorCorner begins at 7 p.m. PST. Check out Carrie's PE report card

The world will have to wait until Oct. 18 to see director Kimberly Peirce 's retelling of the Stephen King novel, but you can check out how Carrietta White performs in physical education right now. That's right, the Carrie remake's viral campaign is in full swing over at the film's Facebook page. While I'm sure someone in the Sony marketing department thinks this is a clever way to sell the movie, I'm not so sure. I mean, a report card? Really? Actually, movie marketing in general is going a bit overboard, don't you think? Teaser trailers for teaser trailers ? Clips up the wazoo? Movie stills galore? Viral crap like this? It almost makes one sick of the movie before it even has a chance to hit theatres. Sure, they open big. But who gives a shit? Anyway, the new Carrie tells the story of a sheltered high school girl who unleashes her newly developed telekinetic powers after being pushed too far by her peers. Wait a minute . . .? That sounds like
