Basement contributor Matt Bellamy has taken it upon himself to watch and
review at least one horror movie a day for
the month of October . . . because he's awesome that way! Tonight, Bellamy reminds us why, sometimes, dead is better.
Stephen King adaptations can be really hit and miss, luckily, this is one of the good ones! Sure, the lousy ones (Graveyard Shift, Maximum Overdrive) have their charms to them in a so-bad-it's-good way, but when handled right they're some of the best horror flicks out there. If you've ever had a family pet, when it dies, I'm sure you've thought to yourself how you wish you could have it back, right? Even if it's just to hold it one last time however if you bury your pet on an Indian burial ground then you may not like what it comes back as! There is a scene in this movie that is every parents' nightmare, I won't touch on exactly what that is for the sake of spoilers but if you've seen the movie then you know exactly what I'm talking about -- always remember to look both ways! **SPOILER ALERT** The kid gets smoked by a truck. So the dad figures that if the family cat can be brought back to life, albeit a tad more evil than it was before, then why not the son? Maybe he won't be evil? And the family lives happily ever after, the end. By "happily ever after", what I really mean is that the son comes back and gets up to some truly heinous shenanigans with a scalpel; Stephen King loves his creepy children! There are some pretty disturbing things going on in this movie and I'm sure parents would be even more creeped out by some of what happens. For me, I think I'll just avoid having kids, incase one of them dies and I decide to bring them back to life but they return as a hell spawn--that would be my luck!

Hey man. Love the site. This movie always creeped me out, especially that header image and the Achilles tendon.... so not cool.
ReplyDeleteLove the fact Stephen King plays the priest too. He's just as creepy looking as the stuff he writes lol.
Thanks for posting Nick and glad you like! Yeah, the Achilles tendon scene makes me squirm every time!
