Basement contributor Matt Bellamy has taken it upon himself to watch and review at least one horror movie a day for the month of October . . . because he's awesome that way! Today Bellamy reminds us that it knows what scares you!
Whether or not it's the greatest haunted house movie ever made is definitely up for debate but it sure is my favourite one. What doesn't this movie have!?! Creepy kids? Check. Evil clowns? Check. Possessed trees? Oh yeah. Zelda Rubenstein? 10-4! It's still a freaky movie to this day but it's so well made and so appealing we all keep coming back to it, even when we know what's waiting for us. Directed by Tobe Hooper (or was it...?) and produced by Steven Spielberg, I think the main goal here was to make the family believable and relatable so that we can put ourselves in their shoes which only leads to amped up scares and chills. My favourite moment in the film? When that one paranormal researcher starts ripping his face off in the mirror and it all flops down in the sink, awesome! I understand the movie 'Insidious' borrows quite a bit from this one which is never a bad thing, I would like to check it out. "They're here!"

Yeah, the last half of "Insidious" has a lot in common with "Poltergeist".
ReplyDeleteMy fave scenes in this movie are the "face peeling" and the "clown's coming for you" scenes.
One of my fave films for sure... too bad there are plans to remake it.
